Portrait of a Victorian couple by C. E. Patrick of Louth 1890s (Cleethorpes connections).
An original cabinet card sourced from Rogers, Arkansas, United States. Charles Edward Patrick was born in Acthorpe, Louth on 17th June 1876. His parents were James Patrick (1840-1906), a groom and gardener from Topcroft, Norfolk, and Mary Hannah Patrick (née Maxted) from Harmston, Lincolnshire. They were married in Hatcliffe, Lincolnshire on 7th May 1874. In 1881, the family were living at 49 Keddington Road, Louth. Charles had five siblings. By 1891, Charles Edward Patrick, aged 14, was a photographer’s apprentice in Louth. Ten years later, in 1901, Charles was a railway engine cleaner and living with his parents at 15 Keddington Road, Louth. He, presumably, was a photographer in his spare time or had changed profession. Charles Edward Patrick married Mary Jane Nicholls, born Spalding, in Grimsby in 1906. By 1911, Charles and Mary Jane were living at 34 Bursar Street, Cleethorpes. The couple had two children and Charles was working as a chauffeur. By 1921, Charles was working as a chauffeur for George Edward James Moody, trawler owner of Knoll House. George Moody was knighted and became Sir George Moody in 1926. Charles and Mary Jane had three children; Edith Louisa, Sidney Charles and Olga. They were all born in Cleethorpes. Charles Edward Patrick was still a private chauffeur in 1939, aged 63. He was living at 25 Parker Street, Cleethorpes with his wife and youngest daughter, Olga. Charles Edward Patrick died in 1956. Mary Jane Patrick, of 25 Parker Street, Cleethorpes, died in 1967. Sadly, both Edith Louisa and Sidney Charles died in their 20s. Olga Barber (née Patrick) died in 1998, aged 78 or 79. Research by Grimsby & Cleethorpes Museum.
