‘Rialto’ being towed into Immingham Docks by ‘Presto’ 1961.
From a contact print taken from a glass plate negative. A photo by a local, professional photographer. ‘Rialto’ was a refrigerated cargo ship built in 1949 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd. on the River Tyne. She was built for Ellerman’s Wilson Line Ltd., Hull. In 1970, she was sold to a company based in Cyprus and renamed ‘Sandra’. It appears that she went to China in 1971. The date she was broken up is uncertain. The tug ‘Presto’ was built as ‘Empire Sara’ in 1943 by Cochrane & Sons Ltd., Selby. She was used by Ministry of War Transport and registered at Hull. After being managed by companies in Newcastle and Liverpool, she went to Ellerman’s Wilson Line Ltd., Hull in 1946 and was renamed ‘Presto’. Broken up in 1968.
