An instruction book for the ‘Lloyd 650’ car made in Grimsby 1946-1950.
An original instruction book published by the manufacturers – Lloyd Cars Ltd., Grimsby. The book has 32 pages. The contents cover; Engine, Ignition, Carburettor, Charging Pump, Transmission System, Suspension System, Brakes, Steering Gear, Checking Wheel Track and Care of Hood. The ‘Lloyd 650’ was an intriguing classic car made entirely at Roland Lloyd’s car factory in Patrick Street, Grimsby. Only about eight of these cars are still in existence (2017) and only three of these are in running condition (2017). During WWII, car production halted and Lloyd’s factory made aircraft engine parts for the Hurricane and Spitfire. After the war, the ‘650’ went into production. The engine is a transversely mounted, 2 stroke, 645cc unit. The drive to the front wheels is by constant velocity joints. The engine doesn’t use the conventional petrol/oil mixture. It has a pressure fed crank with oil already in the sump and, instead of normal crankshaft compression, it uses a Roland Lloyd patented double acting charging pump that also lubricates the engine. Note: The Lloyd ‘350’ car was made by Lloyd Cars Ltd. from 1936 until 1939. The ‘650’ was made from 1946 until 1950.
