Large albumen photographs of Roman columns discovered in Lincoln in 1878.

Original c1878 albumen photographic prints mounted on card. The description reads, “Roman Columns, supposed to have been part of the Portico of the ancient Basilica of the city of Lindum Colonia (Lincoln) and the province subject to it. Discovered May, 1878.” The positions of these sandstone Roman columns, from the Eastern colonnade of the forum complex, are marked by circles of granite setts within the cobbles of Bailgate.
