The registered trade mark of John Fletcher, butcher, of 152 Victoria Street, Grimsby 1890.
A scan from an 1890 publication. John Fletcher was in business from c1887. (He took over the business of Mark Kirk.) His shop was known as the ‘Monkey, Pig and Pie Shop’. Does anyone know why? William Edward Fletcher, pork butcher and confectioner, was still in business in 1958. He had ‘Monkey, Pig and Pie’ premises at 152 Victoria Street, 145 Freeman Street, 10 Deansgate, Bull Ring and 19 St Peters Avenue, Cleethorpes. Note: John Fletcher (1848-1924) lived at ‘Park Villa’, Hainton Square. Note: William Edward Fletcher (1878-) lived at 47 The Park, Grimsby. William Edward Fletcher was John’s nephew. He was born William Edward Ainsworth in Rochdale, Lancashire. He described himself as a ‘master pork butcher’. Note: Gilded stone pie and monkey symbols from the shop are in the Grimsby’s museum store.
