NFS funeral; Beacon Avenue, Cleethorpes 1944.
A large, original wartime print. The image shows the funeral of Section Leader D. M. Bilton at Cleethorpes on 3rd February 1944. The NFS firefighters are in Beacon Avenue, close to Cleethorpes Cemetery. The Girls’ Grammar School is in the background. Section Leader David Martin Bilton S.L., N.F.S. of 93 Rutland Street, Grimsby was accidentally killed in a road accident on Tetney Road, Humberstone whilst on duty on 31st January 1944. He was 36 years old. The funeral service was at St. Aidan’s Church. David Martin Bilton was born in Cleethorpes on 25th May 1908. He was the son of George and Jessie Ayre Bilton. David was a general provision dealer. Note: When DMB was 2 years old, he was living at South Killingholme.
