Brass carbide lamp made by the Coal, Salt & Tanning Co., Grimsby circa early C20.

A brass lamp that produces and burns acetylene (C2H2), which is created by the reaction of calcium carbide (CaC2) with water. The lamp was made by the Coal, Salt & Tanning Co., Grimsby in the early 20th century. Probably used on steam trawlers. The twin-jet “Bray Luta” “21 Litres” gas burner was made by George Bray & Co., Leeds between 1903 and 1928. This one was probably made well before 1920.
