D. H. & A. H. Bloomer’s garage at Bradley Cross Roads, Grimsby c1947
An original, unposted, real photographic postcard by S. J. Warren, 53 Ainslie Street, Grimsby. The black Austin saloon car, AEE 981, in the centre of the photo was registered to The Chief Constable, Central Police Station in June 1947. The local registration was cancelled on 16th December 1948 and the car went to Kingston upon Hull in 1949. [Thanks to Tracey Townsend of the North East Lincolnshire Archives.] It appears that two police officers are issuing the driver in Laceby Road with a speeding ticket! A. H. Bloomer was the father of Shirley Brasher (née Bloomer), the famous tennis player who won three Grand Slam titles in the 1950s. Stanley John Warren was an excellent and prolific photographer working in the Grimsby/Immingham area, especially in the 1920s and 1930s. His address was 225 Hainton Avenue, Grimsby earlier in the 1930s and 53 Ainslie St., Grimsby by later in the 1930s. Stanley Warren was born in 1890 in Leamington, Warwickshire. He served in WW1 and was a photographer in the Royal Engineers in 1921. He came to Grimsby from Eastbourne, Sussex. Stanley married Elizabeth Lingard in Grimsby in 1944. He died in Grimsby in 1963, aged 72.
