Haagensen Memorial, Laceby c1910.
From the Albert Gait family album. Once one of the area’s most famous tourist attractions. On the memorial is says, ““IN MEMORY OF CONSUL PETER HENRIK HAAGENSEN BORN AT MOSS, NORWAY, 3RD AUGUST 1837, AND OF HIS BELOVED WIFE, JANNA, BORN AT VINGER, NORWAY, 7TH SEPTEMBER 1845 DIED AT GRIMSBY 11TH DECEMBER 1897. ALSO OF THEIR FOUR CHILDREN, HENRY, CLARA, FREDERICK & MAUD. TO THE GLORY OF GOD IN THE HOPE OF RESURECTION AND RECOGNITION IN ETERNITY”. Peter Henrik Haagensen died on 12th May 1919, after this photograph was taken. Only Peter and Janna were buried here. At some point, the names of the four children were removed and replaced by the place of Peter’s death (Bournemouth). The children were buried elsewhere in the UK.
