Roger Philip Basil Wells (1916-1993) was an architect based in Grimsby. He was born in Grimsby and died in Grimsby. Roger Wells was a well-known collector of rare stamps and covers from all over the world. RRS ‘Bransfield’ was an ice-strengthened cargo vessel, purpose-built for the British Antarctic Survey. She was built by Robb Caledon Shipbuilders Ltd, Leith and was launched in 1970. Her Port of Registry was Port Stanley, Falkland Islands. For much of her career her joint Masters were John Cole and Stuart Lawrence. Captain Stuart James Lawrence, from Grimsby, served with BAS from 1970 to 2003. RRS “Bransfield’ visited Grimsby in 1986, 1992 and 1998. RRS ‘Bransfield’ was broken up in Mumbai in 2000.
