Grimsby News building and the Baptist Tabernacle, Victoria Street (colourised) c1912.
An original c1912 photographic postcard by F.C.C. Real Photo Series, Hull (printed in Britain). Unposted. [Colourised in 2021.] This part of Victoria Street is now known as Victoria Street South. The photo was taken at the junction with Pasture Street looking east towards the Docks. On the left is The Grimsby News Co. Ltd. now Allenby Stevenson Ltd., a carpet shop. The white building on the right was and is The Hope & Anchor public house. The twin spires of the towers of The Baptist Tabernacle (1877-1970s) are to the right of the front of the No. 24 tram. Many thanks to Adrian Wilkinson for the identification of the large spire. This was the spire of of the Spring Church in Upper Spring Street (Congregationalist Church). The spire was removed in 1960. The building below the spire still exists and is painted white.
